Back to School Marketing | Pharmacy Marketing Simplified
Monday Aug 24, 2020
Monday Aug 24, 2020
September is just around the corner, and Labor Day cookouts are mere days away. While this celebration marks the relative end of the summer, for the kids in your life, it also means it’s time to go back to school.
Emotions are high this time of year. Kids want to make a good impression, sporting the latest fashions and newest gear to impress their friends. Their parents, in turn, want to make sure they’re prepared with enough food and the right supplies to make it through their day.
Pharmacy Owners should be equally energized. Back-to-school season is a big deal in this country: In previous years, retailers saw roughly $828 billion in sales during the back-to-school season. Right now the only retail holiday bringing in more cash in the U.S. is the so-called “winter holiday” where holly jolly gift-giving frenzies dominate buying patterns.
So when does this holiday officially start? Some brands begin their marketing campaigns as early as July, not long after those Independence Day fireworks fizzle out. That’s partly because there’s no standard school start date in the U.S. Some districts in Arizona, for example, begin as early as mid July. Students in Boston, however, won’t be boarding their school buses until early September.

Children grow up quickly. As a parent, you’ve probably gone through countless sizes of clothing, ever-changing tastes in food, and a seemingly interminable increase in height as your child grows. Your child’s fast growth rate requires all of the essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, which they can get from a healthy, balanced diet. However, as you know, kids can be picky eaters, which can make it nearly impossible to give them the vitamins and minerals they need every day.
That’s where vitamins come into play. These supplements can make a great addition to your child’s daily routine to help give him or her all of the proper nutrition they need to grow up big and strong. Here are 6 big benefits that vitamins have for your kids:
Fills in the Nutritional Gap – If your child is a fussy eater or if he or she simply doesn’t receive the proper nutrition needed daily, vitamins can be a great way to fill in the gaps, so to speak. Our bodies need vitamins and minerals to function correctly, and supplementary vitamins can help cover all the bases to ensure that your child is growing and developing properly.
Gives Them Energy – Your child needs plenty of energy to help them grow and enjoy the day. B vitamins, which are typically found in many of the foods we eat, help convert what we eat into energy. However, our bodies have a limited capacity to store B vitamins, so we need to replace them each day. Giving your child vitamins, especially those rich in many of the B vitamins, can help ensure that you are giving them all the energy they need every day.
Strengthens Healthy Bones – Calcium and vitamin D are essential for strong, healthy bones and teeth. When your child receives these nutrients in the vitamins you give, you are promoting the growth and development of strong bones not only during their childhood but also into their teenage and adult years.
Supports Healthy Eyes – Proper nutrition, including plenty of beta-carotene and vitamin A, is vital for strong eye development and health. Children’s vitamins that include these nutrients can help give your child everything he or she needs to develop healthy eyes and sustain healthy vision.
Strengthens the Immune System – As a parent, you probably know that children often bring a slew of germs and bugs home with them from school. That’s because their immune systems are still developing and are not as strong as an adult’s. Fortunately, you can help give your child’s immune system a boost with supplementary vitamins, especially those that contain zinc and vitamin C.
Helps Support a Healthy Brain – A child needs the right nutrients, particularly iodine, to think properly, process information, and grow mentally. However, a recent study has shown that 1 in 3 children did not receive enough iodine between the ages of 8 and 10. A multi-vitamin that contains iodine is a sure way to give your child what he or she needs to develop a healthy brain.

Medication Adherence
A whopping 50% of patients do not take their medications as prescribed, meaning we have a long way to go in improving adherence in our communities. Independent pharmacies can be on the fore front of improving this number by adopting an adherence program, and even take it the next step further by adding a medication packaging service.
For the first Pharmacy Marketing Simplified podcast in 2019, listen to Nicolle McClure and her guest Rob Anderson with Synergy Medical, discuss adherence, how to start a program, and ways to easily market it.

Differentiate via Value-based Pharmacy Care - PPN Episode 755
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Cardinal Health sponsored several podcast episodes featuring several dynamic pharmacy professionals making a difference in our healthcare system delivery models.
Nicolle McClure, president of GRX Marketing interviewed pharmacy owners and a physician to better outline the benefits of Value-based Pharmacy Care.
Value-based Pharmacy care is a healthcare delivery model in which providers, including, pharmacists, hospitals and physicians, are paid based on patient health outcomes. Under value-based care agreements, providers are rewarded for helping patients improve their health, reduce the effects and incidence of chronic disease, and live healthier lives in an evidence-based way.
Value-based care differs from a fee-for-service or capitated approach, in which providers are paid based on the amount of healthcare services they deliver. The “value” in value-based healthcare is derived from measuring health outcomes against the cost of delivering the outcomes.
The benefits of a value-based healthcare system extend to patients, providers, payers, suppliers, and society as a whole.
We thank Cardinal Health for their investment into the Pharmacy Podcast Network and supporting our interviews.
